Lady Gaga...

...is fabulous.

I don't know why I love this outfit so much. The attitude, the nude, pink, and black, the multiple pairs of sunglasses, her rockin' abs... everything lol. I've been listening to Just Dance to get ready for going out (read: pre-gaming) lately and it's the perfect song for that genre of catchy, up-beat, party anthems sure to be on repeat at your nearby sorrority house! lol I guess catchy pop songs are my guilty pleasures. Specially those entertaining pop wrecks. Stupid tabloids.

Oh Lily...

source: oh-lily.com

The lovely Lily Allen looking like the hot mess she is. I had to find the un-Perez-ed version because I just love this photo. Her new album is out February 9th and I've already pre-ordered it on iTunes! You can hear her new song, The Fear, below. (I'd like to see these exploits as consumer empowerment rather than "selling out". Plus I'm just excited to have html code back into my life... it's been too long. And now if I can just find enough time to get back into it, I'll promise this site will be a bit more interesting. :) )

Feelin' Myself

Some things I like right now:
  1. Bird feeders. I recently bought a Squirrel Buster Mini wild bird feeder. I have an obsession with "feeding the birds" that comes from my mother (or was it Mary Poppins?). My mom has multiple seed feeders, hummingbird feeders, and bird baths--much to the pleasure of my two cats as well. So I'm hanging mine tomorrow.
  2. Smashbox O-Gloss. It's the "intuitive lip-gloss" version of the famed O-Glow, with a slightly more subtle pink.
  3. Cookbooks. Vegetarian ones with pictures please! But as my housemate's mother warned: "Careful dear, buying cookbooks can become an addiction." I'm afraid I might be susceptible. This one was on clearance for $4.99!
  4. Free music that happens to be good and legal too! My two favorite sites so far for sweet alternative and indie artists are RCRDLBL and SubPop Records. Do you know of any more?
  5. One of my classes was canceled today! So I got a rice paper tofu veggie wrap with tahini from the Cafe. Mmm.
  6. The song Valerie by Amy Winehouse on her B-Sides album. It's infectious, happy, and soulful and has been stuck in my head for the last 3 days. Also on my playlist: Fleet Foxes, TV on the Radio, Human Highway, Bon Iver, Santogold, National Parcs, and Cee-Lo Green.
  7. Layering. It's getting sunny but has hardly affected the temperature... it's still freezing in the morning and afternoon and stuffy hot in the classrooms and over-chilled in the library. Layering is the only thing saving me now.
Some things I don't like right now:
  1. My bike seat got stolen today. Or yesterday. That's what I get for being lazy and leaving out on the street overnight... twice. Stupid loser theft made me look like an ass walking my bike home today. And even more dumb when I realized I could ride it standing up... One of those days.
  2. Stuffy noses. It's that time of the year as well.
Etc...
  1. I love these two looks from Alexis Mabille Spring 2009 Couture. I love the menswear/ utilitarian feel and the swing of the coat on Chanel. I love the mix of the textured velvet coat with the sequin shirt tucked in. The purple shoes throughout were great too.

Historical Inauguration in T-Minus...

My latest obsession, hulu tv, is an amazing site that gathers all the free shows, movies, and clips on the internet with less annoying commercials than most. In only a matter of hours, we will see the live inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama. This is going to be so epic! It's one for the history books as America's first multiracial* president!
*he is half-white... we do have the first black First Lady, however!

---- EDIT [10:16 am pct] : What an amazing speech! Obama declared with great fervor the need for immediate action to spearhead the greatest issues facing the U.S. today. I thought he did a great job of instilling hope for the future in even so desperate and difficult a time in our country. I'm glad that the connection to Lincoln's inaugural address wasn't as central as his declaration of his own convictions and promises for the coming term, though still held the air of historical monumentality. I know I wasn't the only one who watched with nervous excitement as Obama eagerly took the oath upon Lincoln's inaugural Bible. By the way, what ever happened to "separation of church and state"? It's always been a danced-around topic at these presidential events, citing tradition and such but Rick Warren's pre-oath prayer was an interesting addition to the event, as was Aretha Franklin's sparkly bow hat.
You can read (or even listen to) the text of his speech here, from the International Herald Tribune.

Beach Days in January

I love being able to go to the beach in January! My friends and I rode our bikes down, ran into some friends, laid out til the sun dipped behind the cliffs, and topped it off with a trip to the best cheap Mexican food around. It couldn't have been a better day! And no school tomorrow and no school Tuesday! I even did laundry so I (finally) have a restocked wardrobe again. I was on my last pair of Hanky Pankys and my jeans were starting to stand up on their own so I could postpone it no longer. Glad I did though as I'm laying here with my chin buried in my fresh smelling sheets.

Back To School!

Well I'm back to school, so you know what that means... my body hates me. I love how weekends are just far enough apart that once it's Friday again (or Thursday... ha), I've fully recovered and it's time to party once more!
Today my housemates and me are going shopping at the saddest excuse for a mall I've ever seen. I mean, I can still spend money there--I'm a little too good at spending money--but this place needs a major revamp. Last time I was there Mervyn's even cheaper branch, Mervyn's California (because we all know Mervyn's can get a little pricey... ha) was going out of business. Says a lot about the mall... also that something new will be in it's place. Nordstrom pretty, pretty please? I won't hold my breath on that one.. By the way, they don't even have a Forever 21! And forget about H&M. Don't they know there are poor college students around here??

Happy 2009!

Happy New Year! 2009 is sure to be one of the most interesting years to date. With the first black president soon to be inaugurated and an unprecedented global economic crisis, change is evident. Hydrogen fuel cell cars are on the way to the public market as innoventions in science and technology take off.
I'm anxious to see how this year will turn out, but above that, I'm excited! This blog is an outlet for the coming year... what sparks my interest or what drives me crazy will be documented here for my (and yours, seeing as this is on the public domain of the internet) viewing pleasure.
